Recently, I bought a 24 inch iMac as part of the startup funds for the church. I needed a new rig that could handle semi-major video editing as well as burn DVD's and run windows. I had previously used an old imac my parents bought me before college, and a laptop when we got married. The laptop is certainly a trusty backup when we go on trips, but limited in its video editing capabilities and no mac compatibility.
Well now that I have gotten back to the beautiful mac os, I have found some much needed free software that might help fellow mac users out there googling away for important free mac software.
FTP client - rbrowser lite
This ftp client has the best gui of any free mac ftp client. Needless to say, there are many others, but this one is native to mac, supports drag and drop between local and server as well as desktop to server. A must have.
Application Launcher - Quicksilver
If you have not messed with it, do it now! The easiest launcher you will ever use. It gets smarter as you use it by bringing frequently selected apps to the top of the list over better text matches. It can index any kind of file and folder allowing you to launch documents just as easy as apps.
Desktop Blogging Client - Qumana
The desktop blogging world for mac has some good offerings that cost money...but hey...your cheap and want to blog without launching your browser everytime and being locked into web interfaces that are never WYSIWYG. Enter Qumana. Free, WYSIWYG, tags, ads, html buttons, compatible with most blogs, even file upload! This one is a keeper. I have always wanted blogging software that didn't force me to sacrifice my web interface features, and I finally found it. Heck, I even posted this post with it!
That's all for now, but be sure to check back because I will keep posting more great finds as the needs arise.
